Laser Vein Treatment Q & A
What is laser vein treatment?
Laser vein treatment is a therapy that permanently removes visible, dysfunctional veins from your face and body with the power of noninvasive laser energy.
At NJ Vein Care and Aesthetics Center, Dr. Nackman and his team offer laser vein treatment with the Icon™ and Elite+™ lasers. They may recommend laser vein treatment for your:
- Rosacea
- Spider veins on nose and face
- Spider veins on legs
- Small varicose leg veins
You can treat multiple areas in one laser vein treatment session.
How does laser vein treatment work?
Dr. Nackman calibrates the energy in the Icon IPL or the Elite Laser to target the hemoglobin in your visible veins and rosacea lesions. Hemoglobin is a red-colored protein that transports oxygen in your blood.
When you have spider veins (also called telangiectasias) or red patches from rosacea, hemoglobin is responsible for the redness of your skin and veins.
When Dr. Nackman directs the light energy to your unwanted vein, it immediately destroys smaller veins and collapses larger veins. Directly after your treatment, your skin may be clear of spider veins and the redness caused by rosacea.
Small reticular veins may first darken and then disappear after one to three months. You may need a series of three or more laser vein treatments to get the clear, visible vein-free skin you desire.
Is laser vein treatment safe?
Laser vein treatment is both safe and effective with minimal risks. Dr. Nackman directs the laser's energy only to the excess pigment in your veins. Though the energy passes through your skin, it doesn’t affect it, aside from causing temporary pinkness and swelling.
Is laser vein treatment permanent?
Laser vein treatment permanently removes the majority of treated veins. However, if you have rosacea, or if you’re prone to spider veins, you may develop a new case of redness at a later date.
Dr. Nackman advises you to keep your veins as healthy as possible by exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, losing excess weight, and quitting smoking. If you have rosacea, he recommends keeping a diary to help you identify and avoid triggers, such as extreme temperatures and spicy foods.
